Thursday Thirteen #3

One of our fosterlings who has never left
One of our fosterlings who has never left!

People who should be foster parents:

  1. Single Women
  2. Lesbians
  3. Gays
  4. Grandparents
  5. Families (all varieties)
  6. Single Men
  7. Couples without children
  8. Got Religion (any variety)
  9. No Religion
  10. Two Spirit/Third Sex
  11. Middle Aged Folks
  12. Young Folks
  13. All Ethnicities/Cultures

I’ve recently had a couple of conversations with folks who think that they can’t/shouldn’t foster or adopt as, “It wouldn’t be fair to the kids.”  I call BS!  Think about the kids who are in foster care, whether they are awaiting adoption or are just in care until their parents can get things back on track.  These are truly NEEDY kids.  They are needy right NOW.  To say that it wouldn’t be fair to the kids because you don’t have a traditional family is a poor excuse.

These kids need someone, anyone, right now.  They need someone on their side.  Someone to teach them things that they don’t know.  Someone to model appropriate behavior, right now.  Someone to advocate for them, immediately.  Someone to love them, now and forever.  If you wait until you have the ideal life then these kids will continue to have nobody at all, right now.

To say that you can ONLY be good for these kids if you come from a traditional family is ridiculous.  These kids don’t care if you are gay.  They don’t care if you are single.  The don’t care if you have grandkids.  They do care that you can embrace them as part of your family and friends.  Everyone deserves to have at least one person in their life who loves them and will advocate for them.  Everyone deserves to have a place to call home.  Please don’t let all the old cultural taboos about foster care and adoption stand in the way of giving these kids a decent place to live with decent folks to love them.

  2. Well, that about covers it!! lol….I dont think people realize how many children out there need foster families. God bless the children:) Happy TT and thanks for stopping by.

  3. Great List, true for children OR kitties OR puppies…. Love has no bias.

  4. I like that list. I don’t think I have it in me to parent a child and then let them walk away. But I have deep admiration for people that do.

  5. I totally agree with you!

  6. Oh I like you byrningbunny!! You’re absolutely right!
